Here Be Dragons (Group A)

What is "Here Be Dragons"?
Lindsay Morrison
A local Windsorite, Tom Lucier, started his blog, Here Be Dragons, back in April 2008. Since then, both his blog and his audience have expanded. Tom uses his blog to raise points about Windsor's environmental, economic and cultural issues. Tom is also the owner the bar, Phog, in downtown Windsor, for which he maintains a second blog. Though he connects a few ideas, such as promotions, the two blogs are completely separate. Here Be Dragons' main focus seems to be Tom's passion for saving and improving the environment. He shows much interest in cleaning up downtown Windsor and trying to minimize the pollution, which is so high in the Windsor area especially. He not only gives tips on what to do to help clean the earth, but gives insight and stories on what others are doing in different areas of the world to pitch in. Also, he shows what he does to help the earth, creating it to seem easy for his readers to pitch in as well…simply by riding your bike to work or school will help your environment in the long run.
Tom also promotes events that are occurring in Windsor such as art shows, band bookings, shows on the local radio station CJAM and, of course, different events held at his own bar, Phog. With a personal tone, his blog is easy to read but also interesting and useful. He supplies a variety of information from blog to blog, keeping it engaging, but also informative for the reader. The use of videos and pictures is very well done, as they match what he is speaking about and further back up his ideas. These type of visuals catch the reader's eye and absorbs their interest more fully. He connects with fellow bloggers of the area such as Windsor Eats and Scaledown Windsor who like him, are promoting and engaging upon what interests them around Windsor.
