Windsor Blogs in Theory and Practice
What is a Blog?
Blogging. There is no true definition for what "blogging" is, rather, there are only estimated definitions that have been created. So, what does it really mean to "blog"? According to Michael Conniff's paper on blogging, there are certain characteristics a blog must have. These characteristics are: reverse chronological order, unfiltered content, comments and often links to outside blogs or sites. The definition of blogging is open to interpretation, and bloggers can define their art in their own chosen way. The topics for blogs range from knitting to book clubs to war overseas. The topic of a blog is pretty much an open concept, the blogger can choose whatever they want to discuss, within reason of course. Blogging offers another form of media for people to use, to get their opinions across. Blogging can impact a community because it offers a place where the public can sound off about issues and concerns in their city. Blogging is still a growing phenomenon, and we'll continue to see its expansion.
International Metropolis
International Metropolis is a blog based in Windsor that focuses on the architectural history of Windsor. It is produced and updated by Andrew Foot, a local historian and photographer. Windsor is rich in architectural history, but it goes unnoticed by many. International Metropolis brings awareness to the issue of architecture in Windsor, and the appearance of the city as a whole. Andrew uses outside sources, such as old city blueprints, postcards and pictures, to show the changing face of Windsor. He also uses photographs contributed by members of the community, who have noticed the changes in Windsor. International Metropolis has steadily grown over the past 6 years, and has offered Windsor citizens a glimpse into the past of Windsor.
